Authava and AWS Cognito

If your application signs users in with AWS Cognito, Authava's Portal Bot can recognize them without a second login. The bot knows who it's talking to, so it can greet them by name and answer from their own account through your APIs.

Cognito is one popular example, not a requirement. Authava is built to work with the sign-in system you already use, whether that's Cognito, another identity provider, or your own login. This page uses Cognito to show how it works.

How Does The Bot Recognize A Cognito User?

Your application already has a Cognito session for the signed-in user. Your page tells the Authava widget which Cognito session to use, through the widget's JavaScript API. The bot reads the user's identity from that session, so there's no separate login.

When the session is about to expire, the widget asks your page for a fresh token, using your existing Cognito refresh. The user stays recognized for the whole conversation.

Our team sets this up with your developers. See Integrate with your Page for the JavaScript side.

What Can The Bot Do For A Signed-In User?

  • Answer from their own account. "Show me my last invoice" or "Do I have anything pending?" goes to your API with the user's identity, through the MCP Gateway.
  • Use tools only signed-in users should have. Tools can be limited to signed-in users. For an anonymous visitor, those tools don't run.
  • Greet them differently. Signed-in users can see a different greeting than anonymous visitors.

The user's identity travels with each tool call in a signed token, not a plain value their browser could edit.

What If I Use A Different Sign-In System?

That's fine. Cognito is just one example. The same idea, the bot recognizing who's already signed in, works with other sign-in systems too. For example, Authava supports a one-click sign-in handoff that links a signed-in user from your site straight into an authenticated chat.

Our team works with your developers to connect whatever sign-in you use. See Portal Bot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Authava work with AWS Cognito?

Yes. If your application uses Cognito for sign-in, the Portal Bot can recognize signed-in users without a second login.

Do my users have to log in to the chatbot separately?

No. The bot uses the Cognito session your application already has.

Can the bot show a user their own account information?

Yes. With the user recognized, the bot can call your APIs for that user's own data, such as invoices or order status.

Does Authava only work with Cognito?

No. Cognito is one popular example. Authava is built to work with the sign-in system you already use, and our team connects it with your developers.
